Service Description​

 

The Mums & Bubs Creative Circle is an 8‑week expressive arts program for mothers in their first year of motherhood. It’s a nurturing space that honours the full spectrum of new motherhood- the wonder, the loss, the exhaustion, and the transformation- offering creative tools to help you process, express, and integrate this profound rite of passage. Grounded in the concept of matrescence- the developmental and identity shift a woman experiences as she becomes a mother- the program weaves together creative writing, artmaking, movement, drama, and sound.

 

Mindfulness and meditation are interwoven throughout, helping you build a reservoir of practices to regulate your nervous system and bring balance to mind, body, and spirit. This circle embraces the reality of caring for both yourself and your baby. Each session offers flexible options so you can engage in your own growth while remaining present with your little one, deepening your bond and sense of belonging. The course is adaptable and individualised, designed to meet the needs of both mum and bub in a safe, supportive environment.

 

Matrescence

Coined by anthropologist Dana Raphael and developed by Dr. Alexandra Sacks, matrescence describes the physical, psychological, hormonal, and social transformation of becoming a mother. Like adolescence, it is a profound identity transition- not a disorder to be fixed, but a passage to be honoured. Every session is held within this lens: what a mother is feeling is not pathology, it is process.

 

Maiden to Mother- Rites of Passage

Drawing on cross-cultural rites of passage traditions, the program holds a 'maiden to mother' arc across the 8 weeks. Participants are met at the threshold, supported through the liminal space, and celebrated as they step into their emerging motherhood identity.
