Service Description
A 4-week expressive arts program for pregnant mums and mums with babies who feel called to honour and celebrate their journey. Held in person and online, this circle is a nurturing space where expression becomes a sacred act, and becoming a mother is met as the rite of passage it is.

Held within the lens of matrescence, the program holds the full spectrum of motherhood: the wonder, the loss, the exhaustion, and the transformation. Through creative writing, artmaking, movement, drama, and sound, you are offered tools to process, express, and integrate this profound threshold in your own way.

Mindfulness and meditation are woven throughout, building a reservoir of practices to regulate your nervous system and bring balance to mind, body, and spirit. Each session offers flexible options so you can tend to your own growth while remaining present with your little one, whether they are in your arms or still in your belly. The program is adaptable and individualised, meeting the needs of both mum and bub in a safe, supportive circle.

Matrescence

Coined by anthropologist Dana Raphael and brought into wider conversation by Dr Alexandra Sacks, matrescence describes the physical, psychological, hormonal, and social transformation of becoming a mother. Like adolescence, it is a profound identity transition: not a disorder to be fixed, but a passage to be honoured. Every session is held within this lens. What you are feeling is not pathology, it is process.

Maiden to Mother: Rites of Passage

Drawing on cross-cultural rites of passage traditions, the program holds a maiden to mother arc across four sessions, one for each phase of the passage. You are met at the threshold, supported through the in-between, and celebrated as you step into your emerging motherhood identity. Expressive arts become the ritual language of this journey, a way to mark, honour, and witness who you are becoming.

-
Separation: Honouring the Maiden
Gathering, thanking, and releasing the woman you have been. A space to honour what you are leaving behind and what you carry with you. -
Liminality: The Threshold
Resting in the in-between, neither who you were nor who you are becoming. Tending the body, the nervous system, and all that arises here. -
Emergence: The Arrival
Meeting the mother within. Expression as a way to witness, name, and welcome who is emerging. -
Integration: Returning
Weaving the journey into who you are now, and being seen, celebrated, and held by the circle.
